MALIBU—The Malibu Film Festival will return for its 18th consecutive year on Saturday, January 13 and Sunday, January 14, presented by Little Beach House Malibu.

The festival will be held at several venues, including the Malibu Civic Theatre and the Little Beach House Malibu’s Soho House.

The festival will commence on Saturday at 11 a.m. with Academy Award nominee Josh Brolin hosting a presentation of the festival’s opening picture, “Unchained: The History of Freestyle Motocross.” A Q&A session will immediately follow the showing.

The remainder of the day (until 9 p.m.) will feature screenings of various independent films – including productions from local Malibu residents. A seminar on “How to Break into Network Television” will also be given by international speaker Jen Grisanti on Saturday for holders of the festival’s All-Access Pass.

Awards will be presented to select pictures by the Little Beach House on Sunday from 7 p.m. to 9 p.m.

Tickets to showings can be purchased individually or as a bundle. Prices are $10 for the opening film, $10 for each successive screening, and $10 for the final film. A film pass can be purchased for $25. Tickets for the award show cost $50 for members of the Little Beach House Malibu and $75 for non-members. The All-Access Pass is $100.

The Malibu Film Festival indicates on its website that more than half the films it screens must be no more than one year old on the date of the festival. The jury is made-up of award-winning short filmmakers that remain involved in making films.
