HOLLYWOOD—On June 29, a shooting killed one driver, and injured two LAPD police officers near Van Ness Avenue and Santa Monica Boulevard.

According to reports, the incident occurred in front of an El Pollo Loco restaurant in the area not too far from St. Andrews Place. The shooting began at about 3 p.m.

The victim, 20-year-old David Suarez, was driving when he was shot by the suspect on foot. He crashed into a nearby light pole after being struck just east of Van Ness.

Suarez was then carried off to the Hollywood Presbyterian Hospital where he was pronounced dead shortly after.

Approaching the crime scene, two officers suddenly came to a halt as they were involved in a multi-car crash while traveling towards the location. As a result, they were transported to a local hospital as well, but were released shortly after their admittance with no serious life-threatening injuries; however, one of the officers did suffer a few gashes to the head, as reported by police authorities.

The suspected gunman allegedly had escaped the scene before LAPD officials were able to apprehend him.

No further developments have been released; however, police officials are still investigating the situation in search of the suspect’s identity. The motives behind the incident are currently under investigation, but authorities believe it may have been gang related.
