MALIBU—This past weekend, the 29th Annual Nautica Malibu Triathlon, presented by Equinox, was held at Zuma Beach.

The triathlon was held from September 18 to September 20. This year, it included a half-mile Pacific Ocean swim, an 18-mile bike ride, and a four-mile run. This free event is held yearly to help raise money for medical research and health organizations.

All activities were open to the public and free. Less athletic activities, like a fun zone and an area where people can sit, relax, eat, and socialize were available. Children were even encouraged to participate in the Nautica Kids Run. For those who are really young, there was an event called the Tot Trot.

Celebrities have been known to participate in this event. In the past, celebrities like Jon Cryer, James Marsden and Matthew McConaughey have been seen participating in the event.

This year, actor Colin Egglesfield participated and won in the celebrity male category. He came in first place with an overall finishing time of 1:38:58.36. Egglesfield is known for his role in the 2011 romantic comedy “Something Borrowed” where he played the main love interest, Dexter “Dex” Thaler III.

Another celebrity who made an appearance at the event was Chace Crawford, who placed fifth in the event with an overall time of 1:49:21.20. Crawford is famous for his portrayal of Nathaniel “Nate” Archibald in the CW show, “Gossip Girl.” The series ran from 2007-2012.
