WEST HOLLYWOOD—The city of West Hollywood is celebrating National Bike Month with a variety of events to encourage residents to bike more throughout the city. According to a news release from the city of West Hollywood, National Bike Month, organized by the League of American Bicyclists helps to promote interest in healthy, sustainable, and economic transportation options; from 2000 to 2013, the number of bicycle commuters in the United States rose by over 62 percent.

The City of West Hollywood has the following Bike Month promotions and events planned to support current and future cyclists:

New WeHo Pedals members can receive 20-percent off of new annual Memberships in May when they sign-up online at www.wehopedals.com and enter the BIKEMONTH2018 promo code. The annual membership gets users 90 minutes of ride time for 365 days across four bike share systems. The promo code will be valid through Thursday, May 31.

In celebration of Bike to Work Week, West Hollywood will host a Bike Light Giveaway to distribute free LED lights to passing cyclists in an effort to encourage bicycle safety. City staff members will be joined by the West Hollywood Bicycle Coalition and members of the City’s Public Safety Commission and Transportation Commission at the corner of Santa Monica Boulevard and N. The city will host a pit stop for Bike to Work Day in partnership with the West Hollywood Bicycle Coalition on Thursday, May 17 from 7:30 a.m. to 9:30 a.m. at 8743 Santa Monica Boulevard, just east of Hancock Avenue. Cyclists will enjoy coffee, snacks, and giveaways during their morning commute break. Members of the community who would like to try West Hollywood’s bike share program, WeHo Pedals, can do so for free on Bike to Work Day. WeHo Pedals will provide free ride time for new and existing members all day on Thursday, May 17. All out-of-hub and out of system area fees still applicable.

West Hollywood will host its monthly mid-day WeHo Pedals Bike Share Basics class on Wednesday, May 23, from 12 p.m. to 1:30 p.m. at the WeHo Pedals Bike Share Hub located on Santa Monica Boulevard and N. Olive Drive. The class provides hands-on experience that aims to educate and inspire community members to use the bike share system as informed, safe, and lawful cyclists.

During the 90-minute workshop, participants will learn how to unlock, adjust, and use all of the features of a WeHo Pedals Bike Share bike while utilizing safe riding skills. The workshop includes a group ride on WeHo Pedals bikes. Participation in the class is free and space is limited to 15 participants. Walk-up participants cannot be accommodated; advance reservations are required. All participants will receive a free helmet.
