UNITED STATES—Well 2016 is officially upon us and as we embark on another year, you might be encouraged to consider and reflect 2015, leaving behind unwanted relationships, sorrows, pain, and any other negative situation that has held you back from experiencing true happiness.

New Year’s Day and beyond is more than just simply a celebration of a new beginning that is to come. It is a look into the future, a new beginning, a fresh well of hope, a chance at doing things better another time around. As we all know, most resolutions never stick, which is why instead of creating promises that will be broken, it’s a good idea to truly reflect on what 2015 has brought you and what you would like to welcome into your life from now on.

Is it clearer perspective? More patience? More time to do what or be with who you love? Somewhere you’ve always wanted to travel? Something you’ve always wanted to finish but never did? Clearing space for what is to come allows us to have a chance of a little happiness into our lives and enjoying the moment, regardless of the hectic lives we may lead.

No matter how large or small your intentions are, one of the best ways to create a better life is to write down what you are thankful for each day. Reminding yourself that even when it looks like things aren’t getting any better, there is always light somewhere if we look close enough. Gratitude is one of the best gifts we can give ourselves. According to Deepak Chopra, “Gratitude opens the door to…the power, the wisdom, the creativity of the universe. You open the door through gratitude.”

Even though 2015 is gone, 2016 leaves a world full of possibilities. Even with new promises and hope for new beginnings, sometimes life just happens and we may make a misstep. However, it’s always important to realize that you are only human and no matter what time of year it is, everyday provides a fresh start.
