HOLLYWOOD—On Monday, August 2, actor Charlie Sheen pleaded guilty to misdemeanor charges in an Aspen courthouse. Sheen was in court to face charges relating to his 2009 domestic abuse scandal. The incident was between the actor and his wife Brooke Mueller Sheen, who accused him of threatening to kill her and forcibly holding her down while wielding a knife.

In pleading guilty to third degree misdemeanor assault, Sheen was able to avoid other, more serious charges stemming from the incident. The actor was facing potential prison time if charged with all of his crimes, but both sides were eventually able to devise a deal, which culminated in Sheen’s guilty plea.

Along with three months of probation and counseling, Sheen’s sentence will include a 30-day stay in the Promises Recovery Center in Malibu. This is the third in a series of recent Hollywood scandals in which celebrities’ legal affairs have landed them in an addiction treatment center. As Canyon News reported recently, actor Chris Klein underwent treatment at a clinic in Park City in the aftermath of his DUI charges; Lindsay Lohan has gone directly into treatment at UCLA following her brief prison stay for probation violation.

With his legal matters squared away, sources are reporting that Sheen now faces a new personal hurdle. TMZ has reported that Sheen and his wife are pursing a divorce, which has been in the works for some time, but was delayed until the legal matters were tended to.
