WESTWOOD—On a cloudy afternoon in a neighborhood overlooking the beautiful UCLA campus, I spent an hour with Thomas Flannery, a young man who just two months ago arrived in Hollywood to see where stardom would take him. After making a huge splash on stage off-Broadway, the handsome New Jersey native, who has no hint of that region’s typical-accent, enthralls two seasoned professionals in the entertainment industry and proves that he’s ready for his close up. Budd Moss and I remain in awe of the presence of this young actor, who also has a very solid head on his shoulders and knowledge about the business.

Thomas Flannery has just been cast as Charles, the male lead in a vampire horror film titled, “Twilight of the Gods.” The classically trained thespian received his BA in theater and graduated from a distinguished NYC theater conservatory. Though there is no hint of arrogance, there is definitely a hint of the huge star Flannery will soon become. With the looks of Clark Gable and the talent of Laurence Olivier, Thomas Flannery’s career will soar, and certainly after moviegoers get to see this film.

Filming is set to begin in late November, while famed director Noah Harald, who has done a lot of incredible projects, is busy scouting out his Bel Air location for much of the filming of “Twilight of the Gods.”

“I really enjoyed meeting and talking to Noah [Harald] lately. He has a great vision for the film, and I knew from my first reading that it was a role I wanted to play. I initially read for another character, but was prepared to read for Charles, and I’m excited that I got it! The idea of a romantic vampire, like the ones we see on ”˜True Blood’ are turned totally on their head in this film. I love that it will return to the way we used to think of vampires,” said Thomas.

Flannery plays a cocky and sophisticated vampire with a more dark mission in his undead-life. That’s really a role change for the actor, who earlier this year completed a film that was Christian-based, called “What If?” It also starred Kristy Swanson and Kevin Sorbo. “Kevin was so real. He took time to work with me, offer me advice and he is one of the nicest actors I’ve ever met. The guy is huge and powerful, but very gracious and polite,” laughed Flannery. “You definitely feel impressed after speaking with someone like Kevin.”

“Twilight of the Gods” has been fully cast, with Emma Fitzpatrick as Claire, Catherine Annette as Megan, Paul Vanderport as Salvatore and Will Poston as Christopher. The film is also being executive produced by the legendary Domiziano Arcangeli. Fans of this maverick’s work can expect excitement, sexual energy and all the things we go to see movies for.

The determined and confident star adds, “When I came out to L.A., it was my goal to get a role like this. One that I could truly make my own. Tommy, my manager Budd Moss worked hard to get the part for me, he truly believed I was perfect for this part. So when I got the call, the first person I called, was my dad. He and I are very close; he’s always been so supportive of me, so of course he was the first person I phoned.”

Describing his character of Charles, Thomas refers to him as a, “Badass! I have a lot of fun one-liners and without giving away the plot, he tends to give other characters a tough time of it,” said the young actor. Also beaming from a recent trip to NYC and meeting such greats as Eddie Redmayne and Alfred Molina, who star in “Red” on Broadway. Being in the presence of his peers and those he admires in the business is something new to the up-and-coming superstar. However, he’d better get used to it. When asked if he’s aware of the vampire craze that has captured the American TV and movie audiences’ attention, Flannery smiled, and then concluded, “I’m ready for anything. I love vampire stories. I grew up watching ”˜Buffy: The Vampire Slayer’ and horror films. And I can tell you, that ”˜Twilight of the Gods’ has a very unique, yet similarly exciting vibe to it as ”˜True Blood.’”
