HOLLYWOOD—“Pretty Little Liars” is known for its cliffhanger finales that have been known to leave fans in a frenzy. The past two summer upped the ante with bombshells like Toby (Keegan Allen) being on the “A” team, and just last year the theory that Ezra (Ian Harding) was uber “A.” This summer the surprise of them all led with the death of MONA (Janel Parrish) and the arrest of SPENCER (Troian Bellisario) in “Taking This One to the Grave.” The episode was so dark and full of twists we have to go back to the beginning.

The episode opened with a crime scene taking place on Thanksgiving Day, Ezra (Ian Harding), Aria (Lucy Hale), Emily (Shay Mitchell) and Hanna (Ashley Benson) were all in complete shock, discussing the amount of blood in the house and then receiving a text message, “Its all your fault,” A. Rewind to Alison (Sasha Pieterse) taking a lie detector test for the Rosewood Police Department. She seemed very in control while being watched by Detective Holbrook (Sean Faris).

We then find ourselves in Mona’s bedroom, with her abode of dolls when she was interrupted by her mother, who informs her daughter that she has guests, the liars. Wow, the ladies have come to their nemesis to gain the upper hand. Spencer and Mona were in sync about Ali’s newest intentions. Mona shared her tragic story about Alison’s cruel past, and quipped in fear about Alison’s next move. It’s apparent that the liars and Mona have buried the hatchet.  Mrs. Vanderwaal asked Hanna about rather Ali has been bullying her daughter again. This seemed to ignite a rage in Mona’s mother, should I fear something horrific in the mix?

Mona called an emergency meeting, but was stunned when only Lucas (Brendan Robinson) showed up to the shindig. She later updated the ladies on Ali’s latest plans to end the game she stole from her. Mona made it clear that Ali selected each of the liars as apart of her master plan to play with their heads. Alison could be “A.” She made things clear to the ladies that they have no intention on being BFFs after things end. It became apparent that Alison has built an army to tackle the liars, but she may find herself in a tangled web if not careful. Whoa, Paige (Lindsey Shaw) stopped playing games and went in for a kiss with Emily.

Mona was a bit stunned to see her mother at school, and traded an evil look with Ali as they walked pass each other in the hall. Aria and Ezra bonded while making pumpkin pie. Spencer was stunned to catch Toby (Keegan Allen) in his police uniform. Lucas decided to drop by the Rosewood PD to get the goods on what Alison was up to by hacking the computer system to connect with Mona to download police files.

Emily, Paige, Hanna and Caleb (Tyler Blackburn) were in the Christmas spirit as they decorated Emily’s house for the biggest holiday of the year. I’d say this is a big precursor to the XMAS episode that we will have this year. Hanna received a call from Mona, which diverted attention. Mona and the ladies watched the video of Ali’s lie detector test. Spencer was on edge, as authorities continued to ask Ali questions about her BFF. Ali than confessed she had nothing to do with Bethany Young’s murder. The Queen Bee was paid a visit by Detective Holbrook who wanted to divulge some details, but we didn’t get to hear about it. Wonder what he revealed?

Caleb joined the ladies in their quest to unearth the truth of what the police were after; there is speculation that Spencer may have been the person behindBethany’s death. Ali put a target on Spencer and Mona devised that there is something linking Bethany and Ali.  Mona felt a bit left out of the group, which Caleb noticed, but the ladies then brought Mona back into the crew.

Mona and Spencer returned to Radley, while Caleb and Hanna remained on patrol. Emily received a visit from Ali that caught her by surprise. Looks like a set-up that Ali was aware of. Aria was on painting patrol creating a diversion that allowed Mona and Spencer to grab the keys. Caleb and Hanna were stunned to see Detective Holbrook arrive on the scene.

Detective Holbrook got underneath Aria’s skin with his constant questioning. Ali did her best to manipulate Emily into being her friend, as Ali began to question Emily’s motives. It became apparent these former lovers/friends are no longer in co-hoots. I’m sorry, but that shove was not a good sign. From a distance Paige spotted two of Ali’s new recruits and decided to follow her enemy.

In the file room, Spencer found a tape for August 8 that revealed Bethany’s father was having an affair with Ali’s mother. Bethany quipped, “Is there anyone in that family that I can trust.” Why do I have a feeling that was directed at the Hastings clan and not the DiLaurentis’ clan? It became apparentBethany and Ali did know each other, and Spencer panicked when she heard a car crash from her phone involving Toby.

Time jumps back to Thanksgiving Day with the ladies discussing Toby’s condition. Paige interrupted the conversation and delivered a big bombshell that Ali was building an army of her own. What? Spencer was arrested by authorities for the murder of Bethany Young, which caused chaos. Mona received a text that Spencer was just arrested, as mommie dearest left for the road. Whoa, this doesn’t look good for Mona. From a distance someone in a hoodie, a female blonde was watching Mona. Aria panicked when Ezra arrived, worried about Spencer. Aria got a call from Mona indicating that Alison luredBethany to Rosewood to murder her, which prompted Aria into panic mode.

The assailant broke into Mona’s home and attacked her. The house was completely trashed.  Blood was stained all over the house and loud screams were unleashed from Hanna from upstairs. Oh my God, they really killed off Mona, just as Ali watched from a distance, with a devilish smirk on her face. Ali you have no idea, the amount of revenge the liars will be seeking for this latest stunt, guilty or not. A war is brewing, not sure if Ali is ready for it?

At Emily’s house, “A” replaced the Christmas decorations with a doll to resemble Mona.  Her body was then seen in the back of a trunk. So Mona is indeed gone.  The final moments saw “A” cutting out a X-MAS card of the liars and placing them in a globe. Taking a deep breathe because that was a finale that was well worth every single moment.

Now, we have to wait till December for the holiday episode and January 2015 before the second half of season five kicks in gear to get some major questions answered. Is Ali really “A?” We know who murdered Mona was a blond female that closely resembles Ali, but were they wearing a wig? Why did “A” murder Mona? Jeez, the revelation of “A” better not disappoint. All I know is Alison is no longer a fan of mine. Till January “PLL” fanatics!
