Canyon News was launched in the midst of chaos and busy-ness. The incubation time between the thought/idea to the actual launch date was less than 9 weeks. Managing this production was unbelievably smooth and easy... maybe magical.

Canyon News's 19-person team is the most amazing, talented, and knowledgeable group. They produced such diverse and interesting material promptly, while they all maintain full time schedules.

It wouldn't be fair not to share the amazing person that not only inspired this project, but whose teaching and ways inspired the reason we successfully completed the launching of Canyon News.

Margaret Fricke

Margaret Fricke was a creator and inventor. If you walk around her house you would see how many things have self made devices attached to them. She had a remote control built onto a television set with some radio device before remote controls were even invented.

Margaret and Oliver, her husband, built their Laurel Canyon Blvd house (literally with their own hands) in 1957. It was way before its time. Even the lights to each room were on a remote control.

Famous people would stop by and ask if they could see the house, it was so futuristic. Shortly after the shell of the house was complete, Oliver passed away. Oliver was Margaret's true love. When she recounted stories of their life as it was, her face lit up. They were a couple that actually found true love.

Margaret worked everyday of her life. She was an assistant at Max Factor, a founding member of the National Secretary's Association, and an independent financial investor. For decades, she was business and financial manager for numerous professionals, celebrities, and corporations. People trusted Margaret with their lives, money, and matters... and with good reason.

Margaret was big sister and sometimes, mom, to her two sisters, Lil Young and Sylvia Barnhart. All sisters stayed very close with each other. They are known as the "Apple Sisters".

Margaret had a special way with people. She brought out the best in everyone and she had a way of bringing people together, not apart. She was completely selfless and giving at all times, even during the last two years when she had her secret battle with cancer. Before this, she was never ill.

There is no way to convey the magic of Margaret. She was just so mystical and magical that you just sound hokey when you try to explain it. Margaret's favorite number was 13. She called it her lucky number. I later found lotto tickets with one number circled on each line ... "13". That was the only number she would match with the winning numbers. She met Oliver on the 13th. She got married on the 13th. Her most important days were on the 13th. Even her access passwords included '13'.

Margaret Fricke peacefully passed away at 10:34 pm on March 13, 2001 in her bed at home... Ruta Lee and I were by her side, as she passed on. We were one of the few that knew of her secret battle, although she had an overwhelming amount of friends and loved ones. You really see someone's true colors during the last hours of their life. Margaret Fricke was a true beauty and was an amazing example of how people should be.

More than a hundred thousand dollars spent on my education couldn't direct my life... Working with Margaret for less than a year did. In the last year, Margaret taught me everything and had me take notes, as so she wouldn't let her clients down. I am currently working as business/financial manager, just as she taught me.

Margaret Fricke has a new address now. She lives in Hollywood Hills' Forest Lawn next to her true love, Oliver Fricke. Her location number is five numbers long... of which equals 13!
