Hollywood Hills Residents Mourn Tragic Loss
Posted by Winter Kelly on Nov 16, 2004 - 5:42:00 PM

Leanne Goggins 1967 - 2004
LAUREL CANYON - Leanne Goggins was Canyon News’ first advertiser. She owned a successful Laurel Canyon Dog Walking business, and she took good care of many canyon dogs, including Liberty, the newsroom dog.

She later became one of my closest friends. Her unique striking beauty, both inside and out, caught the attention of anyone that knew her. Leanne made everyone feel special, whether it was a rescue dog that was out of control or a friend that never had time to sit down and have tea. She made everyone seem like their good qualities were all that mattered.

Leanne moved from Canada several years ago after marrying canyon resident Walton Goggins. The two made their home in Laurel Canyon with their dog, Beulah, Leanne’s sidekick. She showed care and concern for all her clients and friends. She was always one you could count on.

A few months ago, when Liberty severely cut herself, both she and Walt were there with emergency locations on where to go and what to do. The next day, Leanne brought over treats and gifts for both Liberty and me. Over a year ago, Canyon News broke the story of the actress that was murdered and left in the Hollywood Hills. It was Leanne that found the body and came to the newsroom within an hour with the details so we could report it to let Canyon News’ readers know there was a killer free.

She put her feelings aside to take care of business. You know someone’s true colors when it comes to tragedy. She explained to me how she ran 75 feet down to the lady on the side of the hill. She told me later that evening, “If only I could have

helped her.” I know so many that would not run up to someone in danger for fear of their own danger. Leanne didn’t think twice about herself, but for the good of others, not only then but always.

Leanne was my good friend and confidante. She was always there with an encouraging word or a sweet thing to say. She gave freely but rarely took from people, as she never wanted to be a burden.

Leanne’s life tragically ended on Friday, November 12, 2004, at 4 p.m. Her memorial service has been set for Friday the 19th at 2 p.m. at Hollywood Funeral Home, located at 6000 Santa Monica Boulevard.

Her beauty and gentleness, both inside and out, will forever be a part of my heart. She is survived by her parents, Peggy and Arnold Kaun from Canada, her brother, Jay, who resides in Australia, her estranged husband, Walton Goggins, and many other family and friends.
