So many Stars!

No matter how rich you become, or how famous and powerful, there is one thing that money can’t buy – health. The world is obsessed with money and all things material. Some people always try to outperform – from the size of their home to the type of vehicle they drive and even where they travel on your holidays. Of course money is important, but we must always remember health should be our top priority. If you are blessed with health, think of the less fortunate dying of AIDS or famine, and you’ll understand how rich you really are. Hollywood stars such as Brad Pitt, Tom Hanks, Tim Robbins, Cameron Diaz, Bob Geldof, and George Clooney are among the many stars that understand this, and have united behind the One Campaign. George Clooney – one of Hollywood’s more down-to-earth, affable stars – continues to be kind.
George Clooney will team up with Matt Damon again, only this time it’s not for laughs. They worked together on “Ocean’s Eleven” and “Ocean’s Twelve;” now the two return in a thriller set in the Middle East. It is based on the memoir of former CIA agent Robert Baer. Damon plays an oil executive married to Amanda Peet. "Syriana" is scheduled for release on Nov. 23.
Julia Roberts must have read my column two weeks ago; she is in the video for her longtime friend Dave Matthews. Dave Matthews Band’s new single, “Dreamgirl,” debuted last week on music channels. The video was shot in the Brooklyn Botanic Garden. Her brother, Eric Roberts, appears in Mariah Carey’s music videos.
We are all glad to hear that Dick Clark feels better and will return to Times Square for New Year’s Eve. New Year’s last year wasn’t the same without him. Ryan Seacrest will be co-hosting the show with Dick Clark.
Speaking of the Big Apple, on Aug. 23, I was escorted by two handsome friends of mine – Jacory Brady of Denver and Michael Nicolaysen of New York – to attend the New York premiere of “Into the Fire.” Michael Phelan’s film is a priceless story, a journey of faith and hope. If there are awards for keeping the faith, surely “Into The Fire” is up for the Medal of Honor. The film marks Phelan’s writing and directorial debut, and is set in New York City in the aftermath of 9/11.
Phelan was inspired to make “Into The Fire” from experiences on Christmas Day in 2000, at a time of personal loss and solitude. The indie film depicts characters facing tough times and coming to terms with what is important in life. Sean Patrick Flanery (Walter Hartwig Jr.) is a workaholic, troubled lieutenant of the NYC Harbor Police who freezes during a rescue attempt, and somehow has to find peace within himself and the victim’s twin. Melina Kanakaredes (Catrina/Sabrina Hampton) from TV’s “Providence,” also stars along with Jobeth Williams.
According to the director, the film was shot in 19 days, and each day was filled with beautiful stories of the cast and crew working together. Michael Phelan’s “Into The Fire” will be released on Sept. 23 in theatres. You can visit the film's Web site at www.intothefire.info. Enrapturing, opulently touching, "Into the Fire" is a movie no one should miss.
Mr. Phelan tells me that he’s currently working on two dramas, one of them to be set in Washington, D.C as a story of politics, family and the search for the truth.
