HOLLYWOOD- The Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences has plans to build a Film Museum in Hollywood, hopefully close to the intersection of Vine Street and Homewood Avenue.
The potential location for the museum was chosen because the Academy felt that Hollywood was an ideal location for a film museum. “We felt it would be a good fit and would anchor the east side of Hollywood with an Academy presence,” said Academy Director of Communications John Pavlik.
The film museum is something that the Academy feels was missing in Hollywood. “I think the movie industry has contributed quite a bit but doesn’t have a major facility of describing that to residents and people that come to Hollywood from all over the world,” said Pavlik.
"I think that there’s been a general feeling for several years that a museum is something that had been cried out for,” said Pavlik.
Funding for the project will be coming from the Academy Awards show, as well as fundraising. The Academy has not yet made a concrete financial plan for the project as it is still waiting approval.
Planning for the museum is currently in early stages. To date, there are not yet any architectural plans for the building, and the set-up of the film museum is still unknown. Should the Academy get approval from the city, construction is expected to begin in 2008.
