Marielys Camacho Reyes: Career and Life Coach

Dear Coach,

I am a young married woman and a mother of an amazing child. I was working full-time as an administrative assistant for a consulting company but when I got pregnant with my son, I decided to resign so I could be a full-time mom. Well, my son is 5 now and will be starting pre-school next month. Even when I love being in my house “playing” mom and acting as a housewife, I kind of miss my working days. I was thinking about going back to work, but I know that six years of unemployment is a big issue, especially since I have not been able to keep up with the changes in my field. Do you think I still have a chance of going back to work and picking up where I left it when I resigned six years ago, or is it too late for me?

Sincerely Sally from NY.

Hi Sally from NY,

Yes, of course. I strongly believe you still have a chance. If you are really interested in going back to work, what I will suggest you to do is to start by “updating” your professional skills. Enroll yourself in computer classes so you can be brought up to speed with the new technological changes, do research about the new changes in your field and study them until you feel comfortable again and capable to perform the job, and more importantly; create a “hire me, I am ready to work” resume and get out there and start applying for jobs to let companies know that you are back in the game. I know it may be scary for you to go back to work but think about it this way, the more you wait, the more difficult it will be for you to get back in the field. Good luck and again don’t be afraid, if you did it before, you can do it again. Just believe in yourself, because that will be the key for your success.

Sincerely, The coach.
