Promoting these work ethics among employees will help managers to improve the relationship his/her employees have with each other by creating a healthier working environment, which in one way or another will have a positive impact in the mission as well as the moral of the organization. We all know that happy, motivated and team-focused employees have better chances of achieving the organization’s goals than not so happy, unmotivated and individual-focused employees.
An excellent way for supervisors to achieve this goal is by adapting a “teamwork attitude” to his/her management approach and by putting in practice some team building techniques.
Below, I will share with you six (6) excellent tips that can help managers or team leaders to promote teamwork within their organization and to improve employee’s working relationships with each other:
1) Establish clear goals that will require employees to work as a team: By doing this, the supervisor will promote teamwork within the organization and at the same time will help the employees to count in each other at the moment of achieving a common goal.
2) Assign well-defined responsibilities within the team: Each employees needs to have their responsibilities clear in their minds in order to have a good performance within a team. Clear instructions and responsibilities equal excellent results.
3) Provide equal training opportunities to employees: Training should be provided and available to all employees regardless of their position and/or responsibilities. This will help the employee to feel as part of the group and also as capable and confident as the other employees to perform the assigned task.
4) Promote team building activities as a tool to smooth the progress of employee’s interactions: Create workshops designed exclusively to encourage employees to practice teamwork. A good idea is to do an off-site with the employees and turn a simple workshop into a “let’s have fun as a team” activity.
5) Establish team management conflict strategies for those crisis moments: Creating a plan of action for those moments not only will help the supervisor to be prepared for crisis before they even start but also will show the employees that they are working in a safe and healthy environment.
6) Appreciate team performance and achievements by providing honest feedback and constructive criticism and at the same time celebrate the team successes by delivering recognition in an open publicized way.
Creating and building a teamwork attitude within an organization not only will help employees to understand that decisions, plans and actions work better when they are completed as a team but at the same time will provide the manager with the opportunity to create a healthier and enjoyable working environment.
