Operation: Cat Adoption
Posted by Sheila Cornelius on Jun 1, 2003 - 7:30:00 PM

LOS ANGELES—We welcome Sheila to our Canyon News family and we're excited to help find some wonderful cats even more wonderful homes! Be sure to check back throughout the month for more available cats.

This column is dedicated to finding homes for wonderful cats who have been rescued from shelters and are waiting for a loving home of their own. Each month we will feature at least one fantastic feline out of the many homeless cats waiting for you to find them. The site will be updated throughout the month with more cats, so be sure to visit often!

NOTE: All shelters mentioned here care for cats of all ages (baby to adult) as well as special needs cats.  For a great site that links to many area shelters, try  Adopt a cat today!!!

Good news!  Bobbi, the cat originally featured for June,  has been adopted but there are plenty more who need good homes.  Read below for information on Sapphire as well as other cats...

This is Sapphire, a 1-year-old female Lynx Point Siamese mix.  She has been spayed and tested negative for FeLV and FIV.

A good samaritan rescued Sapphire when they found her abandoned and seriously injured.  In spite of this she is a purr machine and has a gentle, loving spirit which makes her all the more endearing.

At first the doctors believed she would need skin graphs and possibly the amputation of one leg but they now believe she will not need either, although she still requires hospitalization as her leg wraps need to be changed every other day.

Through it all, she continues to be a loving purr machine. We do not have an available date yet as to when she will be adoptable but would love to talk to any interested parties regarding her future adoption.

If you would like to make a donation to help cover Sapphire's medical expenses, please contact

Tabby - Brown

Size: Medium
Age: Young
Sex: Male
Notes: R.C. was in the isolation ward at the South Central city shelter. He came in to the shelter with three legs and a stump for the missing limb. Our vet assessed that it was a birth defect. However, the stump was painful for R.C. and was at risk for infection. We had the birth defect surgically amputated. R.C. knows no different—he's always managed to get around on 3 legs—and, believe us, he manages to jump around and tackle other cats and kittens. He lets nothing stand in his way of leading a normal kitten life! R.C. has a special place in our hearts. He is FRIENDLY, FRIENDLY, FRIENDLY and gets along with other cats beautifully. R.C. is negative for FeLV/FIV, neutered, vaccinated, dewormed, treated for fleas, and microchipped.

Notes: Wyatt came to us from the South Central shelter, and as you can probably tell from the scratches on his face, he had a pretty rough beginning. Wyatt lived outside for two years as an unneutered male, during which time he contracted Feline Immunodeficienty Virus. Although Wyatt is positive for FIV, he is a very healthy boy! He is also Mr. Personality! He loves to talk, is affectionate, and walks on a harness and leash. Wyatt would do best as an only kitty, or in a home with a dog. If you would like to adopt Wyatt, please fill out this application and email it to Rescued Pet. Rescued Pet Foundation has these and many other cats available for adoption! If you are interested in meeting them, we can be reached via email ( or through our voice mail at 310-284-3680.

Domestic Short Hair-black Mix

Size: Medium
Age: Adult
Sex: Female
I.D: G65

Notes: I am a sweet little angel who loves to cuddle. Unfortunately, I inherited poor teeth and gums. I have had some teeth removed, and am doing better. My foster mom wants me to go to a home that understands that they really have to watch my teeth and gums for the rest of my life. I am only around 4-5 years old, and healthy in every other way.
This pet is: up to date with routine shots, already house trained, and altered.
