Operation: Cat Adoption
Posted by Sheila Cornelius on Jul 1, 2003 - 11:25:00 PM

LOS ANGELES—Sapphire is still looking for a good home. She is a a 1-year-old female Lynx Point Siamese mix. She has been spayed and tested negative for FeLV and FIV. Read about her and why adult cats make great pets.

FEATURED CAT:

This is Sapphire, a 1-year-old female Lynx Point Siamese mix.  She has been spayed and tested negative for FeLV and FIV.

Sapphire was found abandoned and seriously injured and the doctors believed she would need skin grafts or even amputation of one leg.  But they were wrong! Sapphire's own Independence Day began early when her bandages were removed. Even though her legs look a little funny fur-wise, she thinks it gives her more character.  What she is really

celebrating is the fact that she can run, jump and play with the best of them!

Because of what this little purr machine has been through, an indoor home for Sapphire is required and we feel she would be happiest in a one-cat household.  Despite everything, this kitty still believes that people are good and will return the love she is given by her new family—and then some.

CONCERNING CATS:

So? Why not a kitten? OK, let's face it; kittens are about the cutest creatures ever created. Which is why, if someone rescues a litter from a shelter and someone else fosters them until they can be separated from mom, they are almost always quickly adopted and their little furry lives are saved. But what about mom and the tens of thousands of cats who thought they were loved until abandoned or dumped into overcrowded shelters where they will be euthanized? Let's look at the other advantages of adult cat adoption: An adult cat has or will be tested, altered and immunized before you bring it home. An adult cat has an established personality, which makes it easier for you to find what you want and avoid surprises. An adult cat is less likely to fray your nerves or your furniture. An adult cat is just a kitten that has already grown up. If you do adopt a kitten, remember: It takes two to tango.

More about that next month...
