LOS ANGELES—The Greater Los Angeles Area on Deafness (GLAD) will be holding a Colon Cancer Prevention workshop on Friday, June 20. The workshop will be led by Leslie Jones of the Voice Ambassador of the Colon Cancer Alliance.
Colon Cancer is the second leading cause of cancer-related deaths in the US.
The National Cancer Institute at the National Institute of Health's website defines colon cancer as a “cancer that forms in the tissues of the colon.” The website estimated that 96,830 new cases of colon cancer were recorded for the 2014 year.
According to the Colon Cancer Alliance's website, colon cancer is the second leading cause of cancer-related deaths in the
United States, with over 90 percent of new cases occurring in those who are 50 and older.
The workshop aims to help people take care of their bodies by getting screened to identify any problems early. According to a flyer provided by GLAD, the steps they educate prospective attendees on colon cancer is: prevention, diagnosis, and treatment. An early diagnosis means a better chance of a cure.
The workshop will be held from 1:30 p.m. to 2:30 p.m. at GLAD located on
2222 Laverna Avenue in
CA. Though the workshop will be presented in American Sign Language, other accommodations can be requested by contact Rafif Gerrard by VP: (323) 892-2312 or by email: firstname.lastname@example.org. Accommodations must be requested at least 10 days in advance.
