US Deaf Open of Surfing starts on June 20.
HUNTINGTON BEACH—The International Deaf Surfriders Association will be holding the US Deaf Open of Surfing Competition. The event will start on June 20 and end on June 22.

The International Deaf Surfriders Association strives to “bring deaf surfers together all around the world.” According to the events website, www.usdeafopenofsurfing.com, the contest will be located on 9th Street and the Pacific Coast Highway.

Officers of the Deaf Contest will conduct their first meeting on Thursday, June 19. On Friday, a second contest meeting will be held, followed by an open ceremony mixer/dinner for the attendees. On Saturday, Contest Day 1 will commence at 7:00 a.m. and end with a closing ceremony and party. On Sunday, a second surf contest may be held.

To register for the event, visit: http://www.usdeafopenofsurfing.com/forms.html. Those who wish to participate in the event must fill out a contest entry form, emergency contact form, a release of liability form, and submit a copy of an audiogram and a photo. Faxed or phoned entries will not be accepted.

Other requirements include a membership to any organization that is affiliated with the International Deaf Surfriders Association. If someone's country does not have an established organization, a fee of $25 will be collected for an International Deaf Surfriders Association (IDSA) membership. Participants are expected to be at least 18 years of age, and have a hearing loss of at least 55 decibels in the better ear. Refunds will not be made unless a medical certificate or family health condition is submitted.

Lodging for the event can be found at the Shorebreak Hotel, the Hilton Waterfront Beach Hotel, the Best Western HB Inn, Sun n' Sands Motel, and the HB Surf Inn.
