BEVERLY HILLS—Beverly Hills will introduce new programs designed to aid students of all ages with their school work. The first of the programs will be the homework center, designed to aid elementary and middle school students to succeed at school. The program will provide a center equipped with 11 computers with the necessary software and internet capability for these students. According to library officials, “The Homework Centerwill provide a space for students to research information, write papers, and work on 8th grade standardized test taking skills.” Access to the lab will be one hour per person, and users must have a Beverly Hills Public Library card in their name.
Another program designed solely for students will be the “Out-of-School-Time Online Homework Help Program.” This program will provide Web based one-on-one homework help in the subjects of math, science, English and social studies. Students will be able to obtain help in this subject from any computer connected to the internet; all the students will need is a library card.
The final program to be offered late September will be designed specifically for teens. The program is named the “teen zone” and will offer a space for 6th through 12th graders. The space will be equipped with all comforts of this generation such as large TVs, gaming systems (Wii, Xbox, PS3), laptops, and DVD players. Library officials said that “teens will be able to relax in denim lounge chair rockers and sofas and have the pleasure of experiencing a customized haven of their very own.” All these services are free as long as the users have a Beverly Hills Public Library card in their name.
