Hospital's New Heart Center Opens

LOS ANGELES—California Hospital Medical Center has been catering to the needs of downtown and beyond for well over a century, since its founding in 1887 by Dr. Walter Lindley. Providing 316 beds, CHMC is well known for its array of specialist care offered, from Orthopedics and Surgery to Women’s Health to Maternity and Neonatal Intensive Care units. In response to the needs of the community, Los Angeles’s California Hospital Medical Center has opened an exciting new state-of-the-art Heart Center. The $9 million expansion and program features a cardiovascular operating suite and two cardiac catheterization labs to meet the growing needs of the downtown Los Angeles area community.
California Hospital Medical Center (CHMC) opened to the public for a sneak peek preview of its state-of-the-art Los Angeles Center for Heart Health center on Thursday, May 31. There was also an official ribbon cutting ceremony at 4 p.m. attended by elected officials, physicians, VIPs and hospital administrators.,
CHMH has established itself as a leader in trauma care. Providing care for more than 60,000 patients a year, CHMC’s Emergency Department and Level II Trauma Center in downtown Los Angele is quite the busy one. (And it is also the area’s sole Level II Trauma Center.) Los Angeles area residents who choose California Hospital as their primary medical center will no longer have to travel or be transferred elsewhere to receive high quality cardiac care. The Los Angeles Center for Heart Health services include complete cardiac care from non-invasive echocardiograms and stress tests to invasive percutaneous catheter-based procedures that can open blocked arteries in the heart or legs, correct an irregular heart rhythm, to cardiac surgical services to bypass block arteries or replace a dysfunctional valve. In addition, the new center features the trans-radial coronary angioplasty approach, a less invasive procedure, resulting in a speedier recovery with shorter patient hospital stays.
Dr. Faye Lee, Medical Director of Cardiology Services at California Hospital Medical Center, noted that “Our expertise, world class physicians, and medical team are working to transform the detection, treatment and prevention of cardiovascular diseases in our patients, and the technologically advanced facility at California Hospital, will give them the best location to pursue that goal.”
Just some of the exciting new features of the brand new Heart Center include a new cardiovascular operating room with the full complement of new equipment for open heart surgery patients. And the cardiac cath lab features the most current technology: Toshiba imaging equipment, a five-bed holding area and two labs for coronary and peripheral vascular equipment. The new technology implemented in the Heart Center includes a total electronic integrated system that allows for seamless reporting of processes and procedures for better communication between doctors and patients.
California Hospital Medical Center is located downtown at 1401 S. Grand Avenue. To find out more about CHMC and its exciting new expansion, visit chmcla.org.
