HOLLYWOOD—The Academy of Television Arts and Sciences has selected Christine Devine’s series Wednesdays Child to receive the Governor’s Award. It is the single most prestigious award at the News Emmys.
Christine Devine is a 14-time Emmy Award-winning news anchor in Los Angeles. A noted adoption advocate through the Freddie Mac Foundation’s Wednesdays Child, Devine was honored with the Congressional Coalition Angels in Adoption award. Christine feels so honored to accept it on behalf of Wednesdays Child in the hopes that it brings more attention to our kids! Since the announcement, Verizon called to send one of their kids to Lakers Camp. HGTV called to decorate a room for one of their adopted kids. KLAC radio took 500 families to a Dodger game. And JC Penney gave two teens a new $800 wardrobe. It is hoped that an honor like the Governor’s Award will only bring more gifts like these for the children.
In addition, The Freddie Mac Foundation’s Wednesdays Child program is receiving the National Congressional Coalition’s Angels in Adoption Award in Washington, D.C. in October. Only a few select, such as Laura Bush and Muhammad Ali, have received the National honor.
Christine’s overall goal has been and is to bring attention to the kids and plight of all children in foster care by being an example of overcoming the odds and recognizing ways we can all serve. As part of that effort, she is self-publishing a new book entitled “Finding A Forever Family” (Intermedia Publishing Group and IMPRBooks.com). The overall story is her journey through the world of foster care and adoption, before Wednesdays Child and how Wednesdays Child changed her life. “People say you do so much for the kids,” says Christine. “If only they knew how much the kids did for me!”
In this moving memoir, anchorwoman Christine Devine shares her 15-year journey reporting on children in the system and the families who adopt them. Christine is in the know as her own parents fostered and adopted. An estimated 500 children who’ve aired on her newscast have found forever families. She speaks from her heart on the struggles, disappointments and doubt that can come with children who've been so traumatized. Through Finding a Forever Family, see how Christine is transformed by these amazing adoptive families who share their unmatched joys, unexpected rewards and life-changing lessons.
Others are singing Christine’s praises. Comedian and actor George Lopez tells Canyon News, “The families in this book are an inspiration to anyone who wants to adopt. Christine Devine’s time on TV on this makes Finding a Forever Family worth reading.” “Every kid needs to know they are important. Here's proof adoption can change a life,” Tommy Lasorda tells Canyon News.
“Finding a Forever Family brings a message of hope for our young who are seeking a new life to be loved and the families who will provide those needs,” said actress and singer Carol Channing.
The next several months will be busy for Divine. On July 30, she’s having a Wednesdays Child reunion show. On August 6, she attends and receives an award at the Emmys. In early October, she receives the National Congressional Award. And in November, Christine celebrates National Adoption Month.
