LOS ANGELES—An exciting company of Oscar, Grammy, Tony and Emmy Award-winning artists are about to offer a new inspirational musical about the human longing for inner peace and lasting happiness.
Loving the Silent Tears, premiering at the prestigious Shrine Auditorium on October 27, will feature 2-time Grammy-winning pop star Jon Secada, Grammy-winning icon Jody Watley, Tony winners Debbie Gravitte and Kiril Kulish, Tony nominee and Emmy winner Liz Callaway, and Tony nominee Patti Cohenour.
Jon Secada stated, “I am very excited to be part of this special event and look forward to performing in the new musical, Loving the Silent Tears.”
“Just to be a part of something this big”¦ and the message of spirituality and peace ”“ we need to be spreading that more, so I thought, ”˜This is great,’” said Jody Watley.
The creative team is led by Tony-nominated director Vincent Paterson (Michael Jackson’s Bad world tour and Madonna’s Blond Ambition world tour), Emmy-winning choreographer Bonnie Story (High School Musical), Emmy-winning set designer John Iacovelli (Peter Pan), and award-winning costume designer Sharell Martin (Chicago).
Mr. Paterson stated, “I’ve always been a creator that hopes that what he creates brings magic and joy, and a little bit of goodness into the world. On Loving the Silent Tears, I’m hoping that the outcome of what we put on the stage will reflect all of the love and the goodness and the positive energy that we feel in putting this piece together. And I hope that the audience will be able to feel that.”
Loving the Silent Tears sets itself apart from many other shows with a vibrant 30-member dancing ensemble and live orchestra.
“Some of the most amazing dancers who exist in the United States are now going to do this project with us,” noted Vincent Paterson. “So we are blessed to have an amazing, amazing collection of dancers that will be with us.”
The lyrics, and show itself, are based on Silent Tears, a heartfelt poetry anthology by Supreme Master Ching Hai, world-renowned spiritual teacher, humanitarian, poet and artist.
Award-winning playwright Cynthia Ferrell, who helped to write the musical, stated, “What interested me most in Loving the Silent Tears was the poetry. The poetry is so beautiful and the message”¦ it’s just so inspiring.”
Original music has been written by a surprising assembly of world-class composers: 5-time Grammy winner and Oscar nominee Jorge Calandrelli (Crouching Tiger, Hidden Dragon), 2-time Oscar winner Al Kasha (The Poseidon Adventure), Emmy winner Doug Katsaros (Footloose), 2-time Grammy winner and Oscar nominee Henry Krieger (Dreamgirls), Tony and Emmy winner Don Pippin (Oliver!), Grammy winner Nan Schwartz (Harry Potter), and Oscar and 2-time Grammy winner David Shire (Saturday Night Fever).
Composer Al Kasha, who also created the musical, said, “All these composers who are the best in the world and all of these singers who won Grammys and Tonys from Broadway were willing to work on this piece because they saw the spiritual nature of it. I think it will lift the audience up inspirationally.”
Loving the Silent Tears will have its one-time only showing on Saturday, October 27, so it’s not to be missed for those on the lookout for a great new show. Arrive to visit the art exhibition of Supreme Master Ching Hai’s creative works and greet the stars on the celebrity red carpet.
This event marks the 19th anniversary of Supreme Master Ching Hai Day, named after the musical’s source of inspiration and highlighting the value of peace and humanitarianism.
As composer Nan Schwartz said, “We're all coming together for the best possible reason. And there's got to be a lot of energy in the room. I can only imagine what it's going to be like that evening. The energy and the positive and the good people that are all together; it sounds like it could be powerful.”
