On Pointe And In The Ring

STUDIO CITY—Perfectly poised and always en pointe, Rebekah Iliff and her dangerously graceful business and life partner Ricky “Showtime” Quiles, a boxing champion, have joined their two passions to audaciously bring Boxers and Ballerinas on the same stage in Studio City.
Iliff wants to make sure that her classes cater to an array of different creative styles including jazz, hip hop, funk, boxing, and contemporary. She has never forgotten the roots of her own instruction and wants to make sure her students receive the same training. Iliff states, “Everything is really rooted in solid technique, infusing classes with modern style.” She is a very talented ballet dancer herself, having danced with the Ballet Chicago Studio Company, David Taylor Dance Theatre in Denver and many others.
Her main goal is to create the “Starbucks of kids studios and would love to have one on every corner…where families and kids can be excited about fitness.” She claims she is “not reinventing the wheel” but this entrepreneur does everything from owning her own marketing and communication business, to working on her Master’s degree, to even finding time to teach classes at her studio. Even after working over 80 hours a week, she manages to find time to take the dance classes that she loves. Iliff says, “If you love what you do you never have a day off. I love to work. For me it’s about combining the two worlds and my passions.”
Quiles and Iliff came up with the idea to combine their two passions and make each other’s work their own as well. Quiles brings his 18 years of professional boxing experience fighting in the Cleveland Golden Gloves with his three titles and love of the art to add his intense classes to the mix. His main goal out of this whole project: doing something for society, as proven in his ardor to achieve a certification in Drug and Alcohol Abuse Counseling at West Los Angeles College. This can be a place where kids can channel their energies and keep their focus on something which can enhance their future and quality of life. Quiles does not oppose the idea of bringing creativity to the ring. Iliff says he can even “bust out in a plié once in a while.”
The two will run the show accompanied by their multi-talented team members—some who have appeared in Celine Dion’s show “A New Day.”
