WEST HOLLYWOOD—Living a healthy life is a common topic in society, be it a rigorous work-out routine or the latest diet that all the celebrities are trying. However, one key element in health is constantly underestimated in society, the importance of sleep.

Custom Comfort Mattress creates a product that enhances customers' quality of sleep and strives to educate people on how the right mattress can improve day-to-day life.

“Most people don’t realize that about a third of their life is spent in bed and don’t really see it as something that’s important to understand," said Digital Media Manager, Demian Ross. "As a company we want people to understand that we talk about sleep as opposed to the product, mattresses.”

The family-owned company began in 1986 with a vision to design better mattresses by using traditional methods. As a proclaimed transparent company, customers will be shown exactly what is in their mattresses.

"One of the key components is that all of our mattresses are double-sided, meaning you can flip them. The industry has gone away from that," said Ross. "The majority of our beds last anywhere from ten to 25 years because we use all natural materials such as cotton, latex and wool. There’s not the breakdown that you see when companies use egg crate foam where the foam will break down quickly since it’s a chemical made product."

Companies that provide one-sided, egg crate foam mattresses can provide a 20 year manufacture warranty. The issue is that the mattress will wear out in three years, but that’s not a manufacture issue, but a wear and tear issue. "Egg crate was basically designed so it can break down faster. Every mattress will get body impressions, you can’t do anything about it. If you can’t flip it then you can’t basically iron out the body impression," said Ross.

The mattress company's factory is based in Southern California and uses "old school craftsmanship" to make sure the mattresses are firm, tufted and adorned with latex toppers which allow the body to contour. The end result leads to a product that can help ease discomfort that former mattresses may have caused.

Many portray mattress salesman as the equivalent of car salesman in that the client is pressured to make quick decisions with ulterior motives rather than to benefit the client. Custom Comfort Mattresses proves to put the customer's best interest first by having qualified sales personnel who are not on commission. Therefore, they can spend an efficient amount of time on making sure each client goes home to a mattress that fits their needs.

The company's mattresses should be flipped every other month, a total of six times, in the first year of purchase while the cotton and latex fully settle. Throughout the following year, the mattress should be flipped four times and after that it is simply based on when the customer sees it fit. Rotating the mattress is also important to ensure that the product is providing the utmost form of comfort. In addition, the mattress company can provide customized mattresses in various shapes and sizes to appease the client's wishes.

"We encourage people to come dressed comfortable and they should expect to stay probably an hour so they can stay 10-15 minutes on a bed uninterrupted to really see if it works for them," said Ross.

Buying a mattress is a big investment as it is a purchase that will last years and can affect both the physical and emotional aspects of one's well-being. Each showroom is state of the art and made to be clean and comfortable to be in while client's make the important decision.
