Actor Philip Seymour Hoffman Found Dead

NEW YORK—Oscar winner Philip Seymour Hoffman was found dead inside his New York City apartment on Sunday, February 2. The acclaimed actor who won an Oscar for his performance in the 2005 film “Capote” was found by NYPD officers. 

 

Officers were called to the actor’s West Village apartment on 35 Bethune Place on Sunday morning and discovered the actor unresponsive shortly after 11:30 a.m. according to reports. An exact cause of death has not yet been determined, but authorities suspect a possible drug overdose.

Hoffman’s family released the following statement, in the midst of the actor’s death, ““We are devastated by the loss of our beloved Phil and appreciate the outpouring of love and support we have received from everyone,” Hoffman’s family said in a statement. “This is a tragic and sudden loss and we ask that you respect our privacy during this time of grieving. Please keep Phil in your thoughts and prayers.”

Celebrities took to Twitter to respond to the death of the actor.  “I have no words. You will be missed!” tweeted actress Christina Applegate. His co-star Sam Claflin, from “The Hunger Games: Catching Fire” tweeted the following: “PSH - I am genuinely shocked, saddened and speechless. A truly wonderful man, with a magical touch. My hero. Thoughts are with his family.”

 

Hoffman is survived by his partner Mimi O’Donnell and his two daughters, Talluah, 7, Willa, 5 and his son Cooper, 10.
