Batman and Superman will square of in the next "Man of Steel" sequel.
HOLLYWOOD—Shock waves radiated through Hollywood this week after Warner Bros. announced on Thursday, August 22, that Ben Affleck will be the new Batman in the “Man of Steel” sequel expected to hit theaters on July 2015.

This isn’t the first time Affleck will put on the superhero tights; a decade ago, he portrayed the title character in the comic book flick “Daredevil".

Director Zack Snyder supported his decision in selecting Affleck, saying, “Ben provides an interesting counter-balance to Henry’s Superman. He has the acting chops to create a layered portrayal of a man who is older and wiser than Clark Kent and bears the scars of a seasoned crime fighter, but retain the charm that the world sees in billionaire Bruce Wayne.  I can’t wait to work with him.”

Fans got whiplash after they heard the news about Batman and took to social media, blasting Affleck as Batman with not-so-nice tweets and memes of Ben Affleck and Matt Damon as Batman and Robin. There is even a new petition on Change.org with fans demanding that Warner Bros. unmask and strip the cape off the soon-to-be superhero, with close to 45,000 signatures and rising by the minute.

Affleck will get in line behind seven other actors who’ve donned The Caped Crusader, from Lewis G Wilson to Christian Bale; this makes Batman the most played superhero in movie history. Batman fans will have to wait and see if Affleck can play Batman’s dual identities in the first ever Superman/Batman installment expected in 2015.
