Ebert passed away at the age of 70 and is known as one of the most prominent and influential film critics in the country. Over the past decade he battled cancer of the thyroid and salivary gland. In 2006, he lost part of his lower jaw, and with it he wasn’t able to speak or eat. He was an early investor in Google and the Internet was his voice.

He had millions of fans on his website www.rogerebert.com and received a special achievement from the Webby Awards. He won a Pulitzer Prize in 1975. In 2005, his name was added to the Hollywood Walk of Fame. Roger won his Pulitzer Prize the same year he began the television show “Coming Soon to A Theater Near You” with Chicago Tribune movie critic Gene Siskel. In 1978, the show was renamed “Sneak Previews” and moved to PBS for national distribution.

He was born in 1942 and attended the University of Illinois. He began at the age 15 years old writing for his high school and eventually became a well known writer. He leaves behind his wife Chaz Hammelsmith Ebert who he was married to for 21 years.
