“Godzilla” Roars To $93.2 Million
Posted by LaDale Anderson on May 19, 2014 - 5:02:17 AM

HOLLYWOOD—Well the constant changeover of #1 movies at the box-office continued this weekend, with the remake of “Godzilla” destroying the competition with a massive $93.2 million over the three-day weekend. The movie also broke a record for 2014 with the biggest opening so far to date with $38.4 million on Friday. Let’s just say that record is bound to be broken within the next month or so.

"Godzilla" roared to the top spot at the box-office.

The movie marks the third picture in 2014 to debut to more than $90 million during its first week at the box-office, “Captain America: The Winter Soldier” and “The Amazing Spiderman 2” also had similar feats. Falling to the #2 spot is the R-rated comedy “Neighbors” with $26 million.  With only two weeks at the box-office the picture has already amounted more than $91 million domestically.

Grabbing the #3 spot is “The Amazing Spiderman 2” with $16.8 million. Spidey might be facing fatigue from moviegoers compared to its 2012 predecessor. To date, the picture has only grossed $170 million domestically, but overseas the numbers have amounted to more than $400 million. Coming in at #4 is the Jon Hamm inspirational film “Million Dollar Arm” with a dismal $10 million.

Landing in the #5 spot is the Cameron Diaz comedy “The Other Woman” with another $6 million to its total. Well the Memorial Day weekend is upon us is another comic book franchise invades the multiplex, “X-Men: Days of Future Past.”  Its predecessor was a critical fave, but opened to only $55 million opening weekend. I have a feeling this flick will surpass those numbers.
