Hollywood Films In Cannes

HOLLYWOOD—On Monday, April 22, the Cannes Film Festival announced their line up of films for the 2013 film festival. The Cannes Film Festival takes place in France every year. The most lauded film festival features international movies and pictures from Hollywood movie studios. The festival will open with Baz Luhrman’s adaptation of “The Great Gatsby” staring Leonardo DiCaprio, Carey Mulligan and Tobey Maguire which is distributed by Warner Bros.

CBS Films, HBO, The Weinstein Company, Warner Bros. and Paramount will have movies in the festival this year. CBS will take The Coen Brothers “Inside Llewyn Davis” starring Oscar Issac and Carey Mulligan. Paramount will debut “ Nebraska” directed by Alexander Payne, who also directed “The Descendants.” HBO will premiere “Behind The Candelabra” directed by Steven Soderbergh starring Matt Damon and Michael Douglas.

 

Harvey Weinstein’s company is going to take three films to the festival this year. Two of the three films will compete for the lauded Palme D’Or. “The Immigrant” starring Joaquin Phoenix and Marion Cotillard directed by James Gray. “Only God Forgives” to be released by the Weinstein’s company sub-company Radius and is directed by Nicolas Winding Refn and stars Ryan Gosling and Kristin Scott Thomas. The final picture from the Weinstein Company is “Fruitvale” which is not in competition for the Palme D’Or, but won the Grand Jury Prize at the Sundance Film Festival which is the directorial debut from Ryan Coogler.

 

The festival takes place from May 15 to May 26. The closing film of the film festival will be “Zulu” by Jerome Salle starring Orlando Bloom and Forest Whitaker. Other films in the festival include “Bling Ring” directed by Sofia Coppola and Roman Polanski’s “Week End Of A Champion.”
