Posted by Luis Cuevas on Apr 16, 2013 - 11:22:25 AM

HOLLYWOOD—On Tuesday, April 16, IMAX Corporation and Paramount Pictures announced five upcoming movies would be played under the IMAX Format. The five-movie deal consists of “Transformers 4” to be released June 27, 2014 and “Interstellar,” which comes out November 7, 2014. The three other films have yet to be announced by Paramount.

Christopher Nolan director of “Interstellar” has been a prominent director and pusher of the IMAX format. Nolan directed the “Dark Knight” trilogy. A couple of scenes were filmed in IMAX for “The Dark Knight,” while almost an hour of IMAX footage was seen in “The Dark Knight Rises.” Michael Bay also used IMAX cameras before with “Transformers: Revenge of the Fallen.”

“Transformers 4” will  be directed by Michael Bay and will star Mark Wahlberg, who will appear in Bay’s “Pain & Gain” this month. Nolan’s “Interstellar” is set to star Matthew McConaughey and Anne Hathaway.

There is a crispness to IMAX pictures along with a better overall clarity to these films. A lot of directors have cited difficulties with the format including the noise it makes, which makes it difficult for dialogue. Bay and Nolan do not have plans to film completely in IMAX, but only key sequences to add a visual aesthetic to the picture.
