"Iron Man 3" Smashes International Box Office

UNITED STATES—On Sunday, April 28, “Iron Man 3” topped the international box office. The film blew away the international competition with a $195.3 million weekend opening surpassing the previous record of $185.1 million set by “The Avengers.”

Disney announced that “Iron Man 3” would be opening on Friday in 42 international territories, which is 79 percent of the international marketplace. The movie opens in the United States on the evening of May 2. The film has yet to open in Russia, China or Germany, but it already became the movie to gross the most over a weekend in Argentina, Hong Kong, Indonesia, Vietnam, Taiwan, The Philippines, Malaysia and Singapore. It is also the biggest opening ever in Latin America and Asia Pacific.

 

“Iron Man 3” stars Robert Downey Jr., as Tony Stark who tries to save the world from The Mandarin played by Ben Kingsley. The movie also stars Gwyneth Paltrow, Don Cheadle, Guy Pearce, Rebecca Hall and Jon Faverau. The flick is directed by Shane Black who also helped co-wrote the screenplay.
