“Lego Movie” Stuns Box-Office
Posted by LaDale Anderson on Feb 10, 2014 - 2:50:52 PM

HOLLYWOOD—Who would have guessed that an animated movie about talking Lego figures would do massive business at the box-office this weekend? Well, surprise “The Lego Movie” dominated movie theaters with a massive gross of a little over $69 million to take the top spot this weekend.  This marks the second highest debut for the month of February, shortly behind 2004’s “The Passion of the Christ” which brought in more than $80 million.

With such a haul, its almost a given the movie will dominate the box-office this coming Valentine’s weekend and perhaps the week after as well.  Surprising box-office analysts was the debut of George Clooney’s drama “The Monuments Men” which drew in a little over $22 million. That’s an interesting for the picture which was expected to be released in December 2013, but was pushed back.

The Kevin Hart/Ice Cube comedy “Ride Along” continues to prove that comedy is loved by Americans, as the film added an additional $9.4 million to its box-office gross. It not stands at a total over the $100 million mark. Not to be outshined, Disney’s “Frozen” continues to prove it’s the animated picture of 2013 and 2014 bringing in little under $7 million. Currently, the picture is only a mere $32 million from reaching the $400 million mark domestically.

This weekend love is in the air with the release of “Winter’s Tale,” “Endless Love,” “About Last Night” and “Robocop.”  I have a feeling that “Robocop” will do big business, but not as much as “The Lego Movie.”
