MTV Movie Awards Moved Up

HOLLYWOOD—Well it looks like the Academy Awards isn’t the only awards ceremony making moves this year. On October 2, it was officially announced that the 2013 MTV Movie Awards will take place on April 14, about two months earlier than the usual timing for the ceremony. In recent years, the event has taken place in early June.

The great thing about the move is that a vast majority of the flicks that have come out over the summer will be fresh in the minds of voters come nomination time. Unlike the Academy Awards, the MTV Movie Awards allows the public to partake in the voting process, allowing more popular pictures to get recognition compared to being overlooked by the more esteemed Oscars. 

For those already planning to make predictions, you can bet “The Avengers” and “The Twilight Saga: Breaking Dawn Part 2” are likely to dominate a majority of the categories next year. So mark your calendars, because on April 14 the coveted golden popcorn will be handed out a bit earlier than expected.
