"Monsters University" Tops Box Office Again

HOLLYWOOD—“ Monsters University” tops the box office for the second week in a row. The animated monster film knocked off two star-studded flicks to claim the No. 1 again with $46.1 million. It is now at $179 million domestically and over $300 million globally.

“The Heat,” a comedy action starring Sandra Bullock and Melissa McCarthy came in at No. 2 with $40 million. Brad Pitt’s “World War Z” came in at No. 3 with $29.8 million. The action-thriller, “White House Down” starring Channing Tatum and Jamie Foxx came in at No. 4 with $25.7 million. “Man Of Steel” took the No. 5 spot with $20.8 million, pushing its global box office gross past $500 million.

 

This coming week will see the release of two films including starring Steve Carell in the animated film “Despicable Me 2” and the more limited “The Way, Way Back.” Also debuting this week is the Jerry Bruckheimer production of “The Lone Ranger” starring Johnny Depp and Armie Hammer.
