New “X-Men” Trailer Delivers More Treats
Posted by LaDale Anderson on Mar 28, 2014 - 5:50:47 AM

HOLLYWOOD—I was quite skeptical if a second trailer would be released for “X-Men: Days of Future Past.” I’m not an avid fan of more than one trailer, as they tend to disclose too many details for the movie. If you do a teaser, that is one thing, but two theatrical trailers not so much.

Well, mutant fans a new trailer has been unleashed and it’s quite revealing to say the least. The first trailer gave us a glimpse of a doom and gloom mutant future, this trailer also does the same, but provides a bit more action for the spectator. The trailer opens with Professor X (Patrick Stewart) speaking about an impending war between mutants, and we are given flashbacks of the present mutants and the future mutants.

Let’s just say things aren’t looking too good for the mutants in the future. Could Storm ( Halle Berry) be in danger as a Sentinel looms near her? Much of the trailer highlights the ongoing battle between mutants (those fighting for good), and those who are fighting against them. As always young Magneto (Michael Fassbender) is leading his army which includes the newly acquainted Mystique (Jennifer Lawrence). There appears to be a bit of a rivalry between Magneto and Charles Xavier (James McAvoy).

Unlike the previous trailer, we finally get to see the mutants in action, especially Magneto who finds his trusty helmet and leads a war that involves the army and the presidency. Its important to note the action is taking place in the 1970s, but also in a distant future where the Sentinels thanks to Bolivar Trask (Peter Dinklage) is on the verge of extinction for the mutant race. I must say the new Sentinels are a big improvement over what has been depicted in the comic books and on the TV screen. As the trailer nears the end, we see some infamous mutants in action including Quicksilver, Ice Man and countless others (more likely the future mutants fighting for survival).

The trailer provides just the right balance of in your face action, but leaves a bit of mystery for the moviegoer to speculate just what might be transpiring or what will take place next.  The year 2014 is already looking like a loaded one for comic book fans, so get your calendars marked, “X-Men: Days of Future Past” arrives in theaters on May 23. Also it’s in eye-popping 3D not so sure that would be something I’d pay to see considering the picture was not shot in the three-dimensional format.
