HOLLYWOOD—This Easter weekend the multiplex will have plenty of options for moviegoers, something to choose from over the holiday. First up for the tweens out there is the picture “The Host,” a supernatural chiller adapted from the novel written by “Twilight” alum Stephanie Meyer.
The movie stars Saiorse Ronan, Jake Abel and Diane Kruger. The sci-fi pic revolves around a group of parasitic aliens that have invaded Earth and have begun their onslaught to control the minds of humans. If you loved any of the “Twilight” pictures this movie will be your cup of tea.
For those looking for a bit of drama, Tyler Perry’s “Temptation: Confessions of a Marriage Counselor” is the movie for you. It’s not your typical Tyler Perry flick. It’s a bit darker than what many audiences have seen from the triple threat (director, producer and writer). The picture tells the story of a marriage counselor, Judith (Jurnee Smollett-Bell).She has a simple life that is so routine she has become a bit bored; she feels forgotten by her husband Brice (Lance Gross), she’s frustrated with her job.
"G.I. Joe: Retaliation."
Her life is in for a treat when she meets a very attractive client, Harley (Robbie Jones), a successful social media guru, who is not afraid to chase after what he wants. Judith is quite adamant about staying faithful to her husband, but temptation becomes a bit much for the protagonist who finds herself absorbed into Harley’s well. All plays well in the beginning, but as their intense affair continues Judith exhibits behavior unlike what many expect of her.The picture also stars Vanessa Williams, Brandy Norwood and Kim Kardashian.
If action is more your field of interest, than “G.I. Joe Retaliation,” the sequel to “G.I. Joe: Rise of Cobra” is for you. The first installment was an absolute action-fueled thrill ride when it was released back in 2009.A mere four years later audiences are now treated to that movie's sequel.I will admit I was a bit concerned about this picture, as it was initially planned for release last summer, but was pushed back to be converted to 3D.It’s never a good sign for a picture to get pushed back.
It’s important to note that many iconic characters from the first picture do not return for this sequel.Hollywood A-lister Channing Tatum reprises his role as Duke, as does Ray Stevenson as Firefly.Other new characters to this installment include Dwayne Johnson, Adrianne Palicki and Bruce Willis. Expect fan-boys of the cartoon and action figures to line up for the flick. With so much happening this Easter weekend, a trip to the movies will be the perfect escape from the family.
