“Transformers 4” And “Scream 5” Updates
Posted by LaDale Anderson on Nov 15, 2012 - 7:00:15 PM

HOLLYWOOD—Some big news has hit the waves of the Internet in the past week.  News surfaced that another installment in the popular franchise series “Transformers” will be unleashed to audiences in 2014.  The installment tentatively titled “Transformers 4” will not star Shia LaBeouf as Sam Witwicky, but Oscar-nominee Mark Wahlberg.  When I first heard the news, I didn’t know how to react.  The series has always been a fave of mine with it’s over the top explosions and CGI effects.

It’s almost unfathomable to watch a “Transformers” flick without Shia in it; for starters he is the star!  But I started to think if director Michael Bay is looking to bring new life into the series, what better way to do it than with A-lister Mark Wahlberg.  How the story will be written to capture Wahlberg’s character is still unknown, but it looks like Bay may be going for a more serious picture this time around, which could be a draw to a more mature audience.

Could Ghostface be returning for "Scream 5?"

In other movie news, director Wes Craven created a buzz on Twitter this week when he released a tweet regarding the status of a new installment in the “Scream” franchise.  The fate of “Scream 5” is completely in the hands of the public.  “Scream 4” was a decent chapter in the franchise, but not the box-office hit that many expected it to be.  It only grossed $38 million domestically, but globally the flick pulled in more than $97 million worldwide, earning its budget back.

Craven tweeted on Monday, “No news on Scream 5 yet.  You guys really want another one?”  The tweet is indeed cryptic, and I’m inclined to think the inner workings of another installment in the popular franchise are already in the works. While “Scream 4” ended on a happy note, it just doesn’t feel complete yet.

Perhaps that reasoning is because original writer Kevin Williamson indicated when he came up with the idea for “Scream 4” it was the beginning of a new trilogy, which means a fifth and sixth chapter in the series.  I so want to know what ideas this creative genius has masterminded for Sidney (Neve Campbell), Dewey (David Arquette) and Gale (Courteney Cox-Arquette).  While no official green-light has been given for the sequel, this news can only mean a good thing for “Scream” fans.  So tell me are you eager for “Transformers 4” or “Scream 5?”
