“Transformers” Box-Office Winner Again
Posted by LaDale Anderson on Jul 7, 2014 - 5:24:35 PM

HOLLYWOOD—Something odd is indeed taking place at the box-office, as the summer movie going season is experiencing a drought in my opinion. For the second week in a row, “Transformers: Age of Extinction” controlled the box-office with a take of $36.4 million. That’s a major drop of more than 60 percent from the previous week. After two weeks in theaters, the robots have taken in more than $175 million.

Falling into the #2 spot was the Melissa McCarthy comedy “Tammy” which earned a little over $21 million over the three-day weekend. Since its release on Wednesday, the comedy has taken in just under $33 million. Grabbing the #3 spot was the horror flick “Deliver Us From Evil” with a dismal $9.5 million.

It’s apparent the audience wasn’t in the mood to be scared. Taking the #4 spot was the comedy "22 Jump Street” with another $9.4 million to its tally; so far the picture has earned over $150 million at the box-office. Rounding out the top five was the animated flick “How to Train Your Dragon 2” which earned a little over $8.75 million.

This week sees the release of the hotly anticipated sequel “Dawn of the Planet of the Apes” starring Jason Clarke and Keri Russell. I must say I’m surprised to see no film has crossed the $100 million plus figure at the box-office this summer. If there is one film that can do it, it will be “Apes,” but if that doesn’t happen I suspect we won’t see it in the summer of 2014.
