The Grape, A Lunchtime Favorite

Grapes have many benefits to the human body.
UNITED STATES—If you look into the fridge of most American homes you’ll likely find the following fruits, apples, oranges, bananas and yep, you guessed it grapes. But what is it about the grape that makes it such a popular treat? We are all aware that grapes come in clusters and are typically grown on vines. This fruit typically comes in a variety of colors that include black, red, blue, green or yellow. They also come in a variety of sizes from small to large; I’m not a fan of the large grapes as they tend to contain seeds. The great thing about grapes is being able to pop them into your mouth, if you purchase a bunch with seeds its not that easy.
Some may be surprised to learn that grapes fall into two categories: table grapes (eaten raw) or wine grapes (used to make wine). A treat that many of us feared in our lunch box were raisins, but surprise, a dried grape is a raisin! Grapes should not be consumed by dogs as they can cause kidney failure in the pet that can be fatal, so keep grapes away from your four legged friends.
For nutritional values, the grape, similar to the radish is a great source of fluoride. The fruit is also a vital source of water, Vitamin K, phosphorus and potassium. Tip: if you’re looking for white grapes, stop looking as you’ll never find them, as green grapes are actually white grapes. While grape juice may be the most popular juice of the grape in America, try white grape juice for a refreshing taste unlike its counterpart that is known for being a bit oversweet at times.
