UCLA finished as Pac-12 regular season winners with a 25-10 regular season record. The blowout loss to
Howland is responsible for mentoring NBA talent Russell Westbrook, Kevin Love, Darren Collison and Arron Afflalo. He finished with a record of 233 wins and 107 losses. He won four conference titles with UCLA in the past eight years which also include three trips to the final four.
Lately, everything had gone down hill for UCLA who missed the NCAA tournament twice in the last four seasons, a losing record in the 2010 season and UCLA has only won two NCAA tournament games since 2008. The Bruins have not advanced to the sweet sixteen for five consecutive seasons post John Wooden era. The team has not been ranked in top ten since the 2008-2009 seasons.
Howland took over UCLA after Steve Lavin had posted a 10-19 regular season record. He was on contract through 2017; his early termination would include a $3.2 million buyout because of his contract.
