UCLA Into Top 25 After Upset Win
Posted by Eric Lemus on Sep 10, 2012 - 12:15:22 PM

WESTWOOD—Saturday night at the Rose Bowl, the nation tuned in to see the new-look UCLA Bruins take down the #17 Nebraska Cornhuskers. The win vaulted the Bruins into the AP Top 25 for the first time in four years.

UCLA's success can be directly correlated to the rise of now Heisman contender Jonathan Franklin. The Week 1 Pac-12 Offensive Player of the Week followed his 214-yard rushing performance by running for 217 yards in week 2.

Franklin is now 632 yards away from becoming UCLA's all-time rushing leader.

Freshman quarterback Brett Hundley also followed up an impressive week 1 performance, with an even better game in week 2.

Hundley threw for 305 yards and four touchdowns in his first game in front of the home crowd. Over the year, Hundley has thrown for six touchdowns and one interception, 508 yards, and connected on 69% of his passes.

The surprising 2-0 start for the Bruins under Jim Mora Jr. comes along with a UCLA team dominating on the ground, something more akin to former coach Rick Neuheisel's pistol offense. Mora, whose coaching experience had been limited to the NFL until now, now has the Bruins sitting at #22 in the latest AP Poll.

UCLA's next game will be Saturday, September 15, against the Houston Cougars at the Rose Bowl.
