PALO ALTO—The ninth seeded Bruins' hopes for a second run at being undefeated came to a depressing end. A road loss to 16th ranked Stanford Cardinals 24-10 on Saturday, October 19, left UCLA at the mercy of Monday’s ranking.

QB Kevin Hogan rushes through the Bruins defense in big Saturday afternoon win.

Stanford’s second half success with RB Tyler Gaffney running 136 yards for 2 touchdowns on 36 carries knocking UCLA from their post. Kevin Hogan set up his offensive line with 18 of 25 making their mark and a 30- yard touchdown pass to WR Kodi Whitfield that he somehow caught between two UCLA defenders and gave the Stanford Cardinals a lead the Bruins could not recover from.

Brett Hundley threw just 192 yards on 24 of 39 passes, but threw two interceptions to Stanford safety Jordan Richards in his sixth loss as QB for the Bruins. It’s the sixth victory over UCLA for the Cardinals and the 14th over teams from the state. Having had one of their best starts since 2005 (8-0) and their highest rank since 1998 (16th on the AP poll) UCLA’s next chance to step in the right direction comes against third ranked Oregon in Eugene. The Ducks have won the last four meetings holding the Bruins to six or less points per game.
