Road Rage VS. Character

LOS ANGELES — There is a commentator on KNX radio in Los Angeles who talks daily about character and how it matters even in today's warped and crazy world. Apparently, there aren't many drivers listening to his words of wisdom. Well, not the ones I am observing as I drive to and from work on the Westside.
I am referring to the absolute pigs and jerks who drive those monstrous SUVs and expensive vehicles. You know who you are. You are the rude, obstinate fools who suddenly decide that you want to go into another lane of traffic and rather than wait for an opening, you inch your way in front of the car next to you in the other lane. So, now you are in your lane and the next lane blocking the cars behind you in both lanes. And then, being the pretentious person you are, you wave your hand like you were royalty for the other drivers to let you drive through.
Well, listen mister or ms., it ain't gonna happen with this dude. I see you preparing your little trip and I take preventive measures. I move close to the car in front of me, so you can't play your little game with your Beamer or Explorer. Go ahead, hit me and you will pay through the nose.
My friends laugh at my driving. Instead of engaging in the obnoxious behavior of my fellow Westside drivers, I will go around the block to get into a lane or go for miles until I find an opening to get into another lane. I will not engage in rude, offensive behavior toward other people. It may be the norm of our society these days, but not for me. I believe that respect for others counts or, in other words, character counts.
