The Doors
—One of the founding members of The Doors, keyboardist Ray Manzarek died from bile duct cancer at the age of 74. In statement released by his publicist Heidi Robinson-Fitzgerald on Monday, May 20 it was confirmed that Manzarek passed away in Rosenheim, Germany while surrounded by his family.

Manzarek and Jim Morrison started the legendary band a few months after graduating from UCLA film school in 1965. Drummer, John Densmore and guitarist, Robbie Krieger, later joined the band.  After the death of Morrison in 1971 the band eventually separated, but went on to sell over over 100 million albums worldwide, and remain legendary icons in music history.

After Morrison’s death, Manzarek remained in the music industry by playing in other bands, and also went on to become an author and work in the film industry.

He is survived by his wife, Dorothy, his son Pablo and two brothers, Rick and James. Funeral arrangements have yet to be announced.
