HOLLYWOOD—Former singer of the Bee Gees Robin Gibb was admitted to a London hospital on Friday, April 13, due to contracting pneumonia, which eventually caused him to go into a comatose state. He was rumored to be on his death bed. Entertainment Weekly announced Gibb has awoken and has opened his eyes.
Gibb has a history of ill health. Last year he was hospitalized due to stomach and colon problems, and again last month for surgery on his intestines. Gibb's representatives did not release the exact diagnosis; however, many rumored it to have been cancer, but he told BBC that he had a growth in his intestines that was removed.
It was reported that that the 62-year-old was making a recovery earlier this year, but his health last week caused him to miss the premiere of "Titanic Requiem." His son, Robin-John Gibb, released a statement before Gibb awoke, indicating that his family was "praying for him and hoping he has a speedy recovery."
The Bee Gees was a band of three brothers who were major contributors during the disco era with major hits such as "How Deep Is Your Love" and "Stayin' Alive." The Bee Gees have been inducted to the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame and have won seven Grammy Awards.
