Super Tone Proves Simple Things Count
Posted by Mary J. Peterson on Feb 1, 2003 - 7:09:00 PM

HOLLYWOOD—Local band Super Tone has been delivering live performances that rock since 1998. Combining strong vocals & lyrics with gifted musicians, Super Tone has performed with legends in and around Hollywood. Super Tone is Brian McConnell, Franchot Tone, Chris Hurst, Kevin Stoller and Svend Lerche. Their debut CD, "Crawl" captures the band's enthusiasm and musical expertise during a performance and at the same time is a tightly produced studio recording.

Super Tone has received several honors, including being selected as one of the "Hot 100 Unsigned Artists" by Music Connection magazine (December issue 2002). In March 2002, Super Tone performed at a pre-Grammy benefit honoring Billy Joel for Music Cares, an organization established in 1989 by the Recording Academy to provide assistance with human service issues within the music community. Artists performing at the benefit included Bon Jovi, Stevie Wonder, Tony Bennett, Matchbox 20 & Don Henley.

It all began in the summer of 1998 when singer songwriter Brian "Superstar" McConnell was introduced to guitarist Franchot Tone. This meeting would result in the two enrolling in the prestigious Music Institute located in Hollywood. While at the Institute, McConnell & Tone developed chemistry together, which would later spark Super Tone's dynamic sound.

McConnell & Tone's performances in and around the UCLA area began packing in audiences. It was during this time that booking agent Sean Healy, of Sean Healy Presents, approached Super Tone to perform in Hollywood. Their first show was at Molly Malone's in Los Angeles and they played to a capacity audience. In attendance that evening was legendary guitarist Robby Krieger of The Doors. Two years later, in the summer of 2000, Super Tone would be joined onstage by Krieger for a sold-out performance at the Roxy theater on the world famous Sunset Strip in Hollywood. Kreiger would again join Super Tone onstage in April 2002 for a show at the Key Club in Hollywood. Keyboard player Kevin Stoller, formerly of the Steve Nicks Band, also performed with Super Tone that night and has been recording and collaborating with Super Tone since then.

"Playing with Robby has been a dream come true, moments like those don't ever last long enough," Brian McConnell said of Super Tone's performances with Krieger.

Super Tone's second CD will be released in early spring of 2003. Produced by McConnell for Superstar Productions with Executive Producer & CEO of Superstar Productions, Brian Pitz, the CD can be purchased at shows or on line at supertonemusic.com or CD Baby.com.

"I believe our success can be attributed to the fact that we're just a bunch of normal guys that love to play music, there are no fronts and I think people appreciate that, especially in this town," said Brian McConnell.

The band is planning a CD release party to be held in Hollywood this spring. For information on Super Tone's live shows e-mail supertonelive@aol.com.
