ORLANDO, Fla.—On Thursday afternoon, Florida State Court Judge Belvin Perry ordered former murder defendant Casey Anthony to repay the State of Florida almost $100,000 in fines, which include costs to the state for searching for a live 2-year-old Caylee Marie Anthony, who her mother claimed to her parents and law enforcement authorities was kidnapped by “Zanny the nanny.” On Tuesday and Wednesday, the disgraced tot mom’s parents George and Cindy Anthony appeared on the “Dr. Phil Show,” in what can only be described as bizarre interviews given by both parents, but it was Cindy Anthony’s interview which raised the most attention by viewers.

George and Cindy Anthony’s interview with Dr. Phil McGraw created a lot of buzz around the nation and online. However, if higher ratings was the goal for the TV show, they certainly won that battle. Although, if the parents of Casey Anthony thought talking in this venue would help repair their battered image to the public, they are sorely mistaken. Though George Anthony at times did come across in more genuine emotions, such as his rage at the thought of Caylee possibly being drugged and then thrown out in the swamp just down the street. However, in response to that statement, Cindy Anthony sought to excuse her daughter’s alleged behavior by saying, “We believe that when the person dies, the body is just a shell. Caylee was already gone, her spirit was gone, and we would have cremated her anyway.” That statement seemed most shocking to Dr. Phil, a seasoned medical professional who has been involved in thousands of psychological exams, therapy sessions and television interviews.
At times, George Anthony seemed angry, at which it did not play very well on the TV cameras. His emotions at being called an alleged pedophile and being accused by the defense of improperly disposing of Caylee’s remains seemed very genuine. However, when it came to his alleged affair with the woman who claimed during the trial to have had an intimate relationship with him, he came across as angry and evasive. Though George Anthony continues to deny the woman’s claims, and besides, for people who have watched this case, that was the most minor of offenses, and frankly no one’s business.
The behavior by former murder defendant Casey Anthony is still very fresh in many people’s minds across the nation. And her mother’s efforts to persuade the public of her daughter’s innocence fell flat. At one point, Cindy came up with three theories for why Casey “snapped,” as she called it. “She may have developed post-partum schizophrenia, she could have had a seizure while Caylee was in the pool or she may have a brain tumor,” she said. When pressed by interviewer Dr. Phil, Cindy could offer no credible details or facts to back up her claims. Just like her daughter Casey, Cindy seemed highly dysfunctional and almost chameleon-like when asked uncomfortable questions.
One of the people who sought justice for Caylee’s death is Ann in New York City. Ann has been devastated by this case, and she initially joined the group to boycott the media and anyone who wrote or discussed the case either online, in print or on television. Ann has since realized that it’s not fair to threaten media outlets who report on this case, and after seeing George and Cindy Anthony on the “Dr. Phil Show,” she spoke exclusively with Canyon News about her feelings. “I watched the interview with Dr. Phil and was going to write you. Cindy still defends Casey (what’s new there?), so far as to mention she might have seizures from a tumor! Like everyone else, we’re astonished Cindy created a new syndrome called post-pregnancy schizophrenia or some crazy hormonal disease like that. Anything at all to defend a baby killer that came from her loins. I realize I’m being extra cynical, but the woman continues to lie, lie, lie, while at least George was honest about thinking his daughter [Casey] was a part of (Caylee’s) death. Cindy was shocked George took the opportunity to be truthful. Maybe she should take a page from his book!”
The group does feel that at least Judge Perry has continued to try to maintain some semblance of justice in the legal system. They are heartened that she will have to pay at least $97,000 for her crimes and her convictions on lying to authorities about the whereabouts of her daughter Caylee.
Ann went on to say, “Nothing was accomplished in actuality. Dr. Phil took the opportunity to reprimand them both, and that was comforting to watch. Casey is one hated young woman and that is never going to change because that dead baby received no justice whatsoever. That jury was too stupid to realize no one is going to (go look for the real killer). They had the (real killer) locked up and on trial. How on earth could they have let her go? That’s what’s bugging most of us. How could they have let her go?”
Calls were made to Anthony’s attorney Jose Baez, but he did not return our calls by press time. Matt Morgan with the law firm Morgan and Morgan in Orlando, Fla. still plans to depose Casey Anthony next month in a defamation case that his firm is handling. “We hope that Morgan and Morgan fights for their clients, and will bring some measure of justice to this case. The lady who was named as the kidnapper deserves all she can get. I just hope a civil jury is smarter than the jury in the criminal case,” concluded Ann.
Casey Anthony remains on probation in the state of Florida.
