AK—Country music star Mindy McCready was found dead in her
Arkansas home from an apparent self-inflicted gunshot wound on Sunday, February 17.
According to reports, the 37-year-old singer was found on her front porch after a report of gunshots being heard. McCready has publicly battled with addiction and mental illness, appearing on Dr. Drew’s "Celebrity Rehab" in 2010. She is survived by two sons, a 7-year-old and a 10-month-old. The latter’s father and McCready’s former boyfriend committed suicide last month.

In January, the “1,000 Angels” and “Guys Do It All The Time” singer wrote on her official fan website "I haven't had a hit in almost a decade. I've spent my fortune, tarnished my public view and made myself the brunt of punch line after punch line. I've been beaten, sued, robbed, arrested, jailed, and evicted. But I'm still here. With a handful of people that I know and trust, a revived determination, and both middle fingers up in the air, I'm ready. I've been here before. I'm a fighter. I'm down, but I'll never be out."
Carrie Underwood tweeted, “I grew up listening to Mindy McCready…So Sad for her family tonight. Many prayers are going out to them.” Just last month, McCready tweeted, “Things have been hectic, but I’m still here…”
