UNITED STATES—A few weeks ago the Transportation Security Administration proposed to change their rules allowing small knives, golf clubs, souvenir travel, miniature baseball bats and other sporting items to be allowed on airplanes without the previous required baggage claim rules.
While the TSA plans to loosen restraints on what is allowed to be taken onto the plane, they will strengthen precautions in the check area. They will focus on their Pre-check program to ensure that safety is key.
This proposal was acquired in March and was determined because small items were seen as not threatening.TSA Administrator John Pistole is responsible for submitting the claim to re-alter the TSA standards.Pistole is the previous Deputy Director of the Federal Bureau Investigation and was nominated by President Obama on May 17, 2010 to administrate over the TSA.
Pistol proposed to allow six centimeter folding knives and small trinkets such as miniature baseball bats, penknives, ski poles or even golf clubs.Due to citizen concern, Pistol’s motion was denied and the previous TSA security measures are still in tact.
On Tuesday, May 28, Pistol was invited to
WashingtonD.C. to speak about the security measures being made.He was quoted saying, “Around the country our workforce is using the latest technology, analyzing and sharing intelligence in real time, and applying the principles of risk-mitigation and risk-management to carry out TSA’s mission ”“ safeguarding the free movement of people and commerce across all modes of transportation.”
Despite the changes occurring or what may be planned for the future, the TSA still abides by the same guidelines and goals.
