HOLLYWOOD—The Bush administration has been firm in their plight to combat the frequent episodes of illegal immigrants entering the
United States. Their efforts have brought light to several raids that have taken place in recent weeks.
Federal immigration officials carried out raids in seventeen states and several cities, including
Hollywood, where almost two hundred illegal immigrants were apprehended, according to recent reports.
Florida based company Rosenbaum-Cunningham International has been accused of hiring workers that they knew were immigrants and paying them under the table and strictly in cash. Some say that this was to ensure that their tracks would remain covered in the long run.
Federal agents raided several Rosenbaum locations last week. Three of the firm’s top executives were charged with criminal misconduct.
Southern California has been ranked the highest area for illegal immigrant arrests. One hundred and ninety five immigrants have been arrested there accounting for more arrests than in any other region.
The Rosenbaum-Cunningham arrests carry with them twenty three indictment counts, which were presented in
D.C. on February 22nd. The company evaded $18 million in taxes, as well as, obtained twenty fabricated work visas for the illegal immigrants they had working for them.
California hosts several other cities that have had illegal immigrant raids. Other cities include San Diego and San Jose.
